Moving House Pt 1

Been busy the last few days with work and getting ready for the move to Al-Waha. Managed to get an extension till the 8th of July as the original date of move, by the end of Jun was not very realistic taking into consideration that I don’t have the off days to do the major stuff.

We have been going back and forth the last 2 days, loading up the car with boxes and light stuff, while also putting on the curtains and getting the gardener for landscaping.

Again, am so glad that I have friends like Leonard and Alan who would drop everything and help Linda and myself.

Our neighbour Marc moved yesterday, and while the house was full of movers and stuff, they left the baby Paul with us for a few hours. As usual, Paul was an angel, I think he is beginning to recognise us and a little :chak! brings a gurgle of baby laughter! Dina did not even want to follow Icad and me as we went over to the hardware store to buy a drill.

Alan and Cindy drove Linda to Dragon Mart to purchase these curtains for the master bedroom. Leonard and I had the honor of setting up the railings. With the sheer and all, it was really tough work, took us 4 hours to set up the two curtains in the room. It worked our well, just the right lenght.

Not only was the work difficult, but also hot and sticky, while the air con was on full blast, the house is still not cold as yet, it will take a few days of the air con switched on all the time for the house to cool down. However, without the curtains, it will warm up quick, thus it looks like there is no choice but to put up as many of the curtains as possible before we make the move.

The landscaping guy has started work, he says that the whole thing will take 7-10 days, just nice as we would be moving in at the later stages of those days, if it all goes as he says la. In Dubai, after awhile, you begin to discount a lot of the things that the people say, especially when is comes to estimates of work done or delivery times!

Nachos with salsa dip for dinner, a picnic in themidst of the packing and stuff at the family room. Icad loved it, but Dina is down with a little fever and cough. Suspect its the hot weather and all, their first summer here anyway.

After the long time spent doing the first room with Leonard, ,managed to put curtains in two rooms in less than an hour. Guess it gets easier as more experinced is gained. Also the new pneumatic drill is awesome! Notice Dina and her cold pack on her forehead.

The new house has lots and lots of external lights housed in nice little metal housings. While its nice to have bright light fixtures all around the house and the side wall, it will be expensive to run. Emirates utilities allowance of Dhs 21600 per year will not be sufficient during the summer months when the air conditioning will suck up lots of energy. Not to mention all the precious water from the sprinkler system. Thus, one of the first things we did was to change the main entrance light bulbs to the energy saving ones. 13w=60w! Bought a few more of the rest of the house, now what am I suppose to do with the older non energy saving bulbs??

Kids loaded, the tools and stuff in the car, time to go back home after a long evening. The days are just too hot to do any real work, but the kids get tired early in the evening, so we have to do a little at a time.

End of Pt 1, will try and cover the garden for part 2, but since its friday, not sure if they will be working there or not.
